School Policies

Community Standards
AUM provides a professional, safe and harmonious space for higher learning.
All students and faculty are expected to respect the integrity and personal rights of every member of the AUM community.
AUM has zero tolerance for behavior that violates its standards, and violations will be immediate grounds for dismissal without reimbursement.
Students and staff are prohibited from encouraging, enticing, influencing or enlisting another student to violate any AUM standards or policies.
ACADEMIC
Academic Ethics
Students are expected to adhere to the highest standards of academic honesty-- all work is to be the result of the student’s own thought and study and produced without the assistance of others. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
Academic Advisement
Any questions or concerns regarding academic issues, coursework, or school policy, including issues with faculty or fellow students, should be addressed to the Dean of Faculty & Academics.
Participation
All AUM students are expected to participate in all areas of the program curriculum as a requirement for graduation. Any student experiencing difficulties should consult the Dean of Faculty & Academics (see “Grievance Procedure” later in this document). A ten-minute break is given every 50 minutes for the students’ own use.
Grading
AUM employs a variety of assessment methods to evaluate students’ academic progress, including written and practical exams, papers and projects. Each instructor will provide a syllabus outlining the requirements for that class, and most classes will carry a letter grade. (A+: 97-100, A: 93-96, A-: 90-92, B+: 87-89, B: 83-86, B-: 80-82, C+: 77-79, C: 73-76, C-: 70-72, F: < 70.) A grade of 70 or better is required to pass each course. A grade of “incomplete” is given if required coursework is not completed; incompletes would have to be discussed with their instructor and Dean of Faculty & Academics.
Exams/Quizzes
Students are expected to take all exams/quizzes at the required time. Make-up exams are at the discretion of the instructor and the Dean of Faculty & Academics. There is a $25 fee for retaking make-up exams; fee is due before make-up exam is given. If a student fails to take a make-up exam, a grade of F will be given.

Student's Grievance Process
Any student with an unresolved grievance against a faculty, staff, or member of the student body who cannot arrive at a resolution may avail themselves of the following grievance process to resolve their differences.
Students are encouraged, before engaging the Grievance Process, to address any academic issues with their instructor and resolve disputes directly with staff members or members of the student body with which they hold a grievance or disagreement.
-
If the student cannot arrive at a resolution on their own, they can then request a meeting with the Director.
-
If no resolution is yet found, the student may then submit a written explanation of such grievance to the Director in order to request a hearing.
-
An AUM Grievance Committee to resolve the issue will be formed. The committee will be constituted by one member of the Administration, one of the teaching staff, and one member of the student body.
-
The decision of the AUM Grievance Committee will be issued within 3 business days of the meeting, it will be considered final, and must be accepted by all parties involved as a resolution to the disagreement.
Academic counseling and personal counseling is available by one of our trained professional staff members.
Educational Records and Privacy
All student information is confidential and will not be disclosed to any third party without written consent from the student. Students have a right to a copy of their records. For each request after the first, a $10 charge will be assessed.
Attendance & Tardiness Policy
Students are given a five-minute grace period before being considered tardy. Being tardy to five classes in a module will be considered an absence. Any student missing three or more days in a module will have to retake that module in order to graduate, but may be able to continue on to future modules with permission of the Dean of Faculty & Academics. Anyone missing three or more classes in a specific module will have to discuss the situation with their instructor and the Dean of Faculty & Academics.
Emergency Closings
AUM follows Alachua County decisions on school closing due to inclement weather or any other reason. If classes have to be cancelled, makeup dates will be announced.
